SV DEN RAK 2018

The three-year campaign for 2016-2018, explores how anyone – as a collective or as an individual – can contribute to reduce the global burden of cancer.

Just as cancer affects every person in a different way, all people have the power to take various actions to reduce the impact of cancer on the individual, family, and community.

The World Cancer Day is a chance to think about what you can do, to pledge, and take action. Whatever you decide to do “We Can. I Can” makes a difference in the fight against cancer.

Malignant neoplasms with a share of 20-25% rank second in terms of death in developed countries around the world, immediately after cardiovascular disease, which account for about or above 50% of the mortality structure. The moment is responsible for almost one of six deaths globally. Every year, more than 14 million people are diagnosed with cancer, and this figure is expected to increase to more than 21 million by 2030.

In our country, after diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms are the second most common cause of death. In 2010, 3705 died from cancer, 3882 in 2016, while the mortality rate ranged from 180.3 per 100,000 population/inhabitants in 2010, to 187.3% in 2016. Men twice more often die of cancer. In men, the most common cause of death from malignant neoplasms is the malignant neoplasm of bronchus and lungs with a mortality rate of 65 deaths per 100,000 men per year. In women the most common cause of death, malignant neoplasm, is a breast. The mortality rate is around 30 per 100,000 women.

“On World Cancer Day, we have an opportunity to collectively examine cancer control strategies to identify winning formulas that will accelerate progress. The goal for all of us is to ensure fewer people develop cancer, more people are successfully treated and that there is a better quality of life for people during treatment and beyond.”
