During the 40th week of 2017 ((02.10.2017 – 08.10.2017), the Republic of Macedonia have registered 3 influenza cases/flu-like diseases(I=0,1/100.000), compared with the 23 cases of the last year. This season, there are cases in Tetovo(n=2) Strumica(n=1).

Regarding the distribution of patients by age groups, the cases this season have been reported in the age group of 15-64 years –n=1, children aged 0-4(n=1), 65+(n=1).

During the week 40 of 2016, the laboratory for virology of IPH has received 11 samples, materials for laboratory diagnostics. All samples are negative.

Vaccination against seasonal influenza is the best protection, therefore the Institute of Public Health recommends to all people with chronic diseases and people with immunodeficiency  to address to the nearest public health center or Regional Office to obtain further information and seasonal flu vaccine.

It is еxpected CPH / Regional offices(RO) to begin vaccination after 15 October, after receiving the vaccine against influenza. The total number of 3-type vaccines (Influvac, produced in Abbot Biologicals Olst, Netherlands) for this season is 28000 doses.


The first report on the situation with the flu (week 40) will be published on Friday, October 13. According to records presented in Flu News Europe in September (from 35-39th week), the activity of influenza virus in Europe is low, and only a few countries reported sporadic detection of influenza viral infections.
